I haven't been around since before the holidays and Kim has been on my tail to upload something...anything! Since she spoiled me rotten, here's some cards I made recently:

This is for my sister who got my boys Guitar Hero World tour and guitars
The guitar and sentiment is done in black EP with fine, pink glitter in it. The face plate and swirls have been bleached out to different degrees. Inkadinkadoo and bo-bunny.

This is for a cousin who is a parrot lover. These were just embossed and I watercolored them. Simple stuff.

The above Banner sketching was drawn by a young, talented girl named Tiffany. I just met her this weekend and she shared her sketchbook with me. There were such wonderful sketchings! I fell in love with this little girl sketch as she reminded me of a sprite. I asked if I could scan and use her as a fairy on my blog, and to my delight, she said yes. I did add the wings and covered her womanly attributes, but the actual drawing is all hers. Beautiful isn't it?!

This is done with wax paper resist background to start and a page from a french book torn away to reveal the stamped image. The heart (which is not black irl) is tied on with copper wire.

I grew tired of my old banner and style of the blog and thought, well, change is good...sometimes. So I set out to find and alter a template to suit me and design a new banner. I settled on this one. It originally had guitars on it, but I removed them and added my own designs. I lost all my links and music, but I'll get them back slowly as I get to blog hopping.
So...the change...it's good, bad, or what change? - you haven't blogged in so long, I don't even know how I ended up here!

Feeling like a newbie stamper

After not stamping for months, I feel like a newbie stamper all over again. Thanks to my Inkstainers friends, who never let me forget I'm a stamper!

I've learned that people recycle/tear apart their cards, for the bits or embellishments, when they are done enjoying their received cards so....
The tag has a magnet on the back and there is a magnet of the same shape on the card. To open it, you just pop off the magnet. Then when you are done looking at the card, you have a magnet you can steal off it. lol

faux silk?

I'm not sure this technique looks like faux silk, but I adore it anyway. Basically, you stamp, cover image with glue and press crumpled tissue paper on it. I'm not a fan of glue as it leaves the c/s a bit wonky, but I liked this one anyway. (and don't say, "just iron it" 'cause I don't iron. lol)

The holidays were hard and I didn't think I'd make even one card. I did though, for Dh's family. I only scanned one, but they were the same techique.
This is glossy resist with shiny, silver mirror card behind, but I sanded it for a different effect.

Forever changed

I have just returned home this week. My father received the kidney transplant he waited for and dreamed about. The surgery went well and it was working fine, but his heart stopped during the night and he passed away. My world has forever changed, and my heart is a little raw.
I spent a month with my mother and family. It's so hard to live so far away from them, especially at times like these.

I found an old hummingbird feeder my father had in my parents' basement. I hung it up on their porch and within no time this little female was there. Mom & I spent a lot of time on the porch and we enjoyed her visits. These are a few pics.

Anyway, I'm home, but not feeling very creative. As soon as my muse returns, I'll post. For now I'll just try to visit all of your blogs for inspiration and enjoyment. Hug everyone you love...don't take them for granted.

After doing the DCM cards below, I kept eyeing up all the packaging around the house that was on it's way to the recycle bin. At first I said, no. I can't use that on a card. Then I though, oh, why not! LOL

DCM - recycled wrappings

This week's dare at DCM is "Tagged"..."Everything we buy has packaging, some of it excessive, some of it beautifully designed. Tags, labels, stickers... all sorts of bits and bobs that we can recycle onto cards."

I took TWO stabs at this one...And yes, it's all from chocolate LOL!

The larger circle is the little wrapper that goes under a Ferrero Rocher chocolate. I ironed it flat-ish. It's all red, brown, & matte gold. The writing just looks black/blue because it's blurry in the scan.

The heart is punched out of a Hershey's Hug foil wrapper and the "HUGS" is, of course, it's pull tab.

New techinque to me

On a group I belong to the challenge was to try a new techinque. I think I've tried just about everything my supplies cover...except the spotlight technique. It's where you only color one portion of an image and it's raised. Honestly, I've never ever liked this technique and I'm not any bigger of a fan after doing it. I guess I shouldn't have added the ribbon or the Pearl Ex to the colored part as it took away the bold black, but...what is done is done and I'm SO done with that technique! LOL

Since I have more stamps with wings than I know what to do with, I chose stamps I haven't used in a year or more ago. The image is by Stamp Camp. I also haven't played with wire for a long time so I twisted up some thin black to go with the sentiment. (sentiment by unknown)

This one, the fairies are Enchanted Ink, I believe, and the sentiment is Stamp Camp. The fairies are colored with Radiant Pearls, but not visible in a scan or photo, so you can't see the shimmer. Oh well, *I* see it. lol

Wax Resist

Been tagged again to list 7 facts about myself, by Glitterangel.

1. I'm on my final diet. This will be the one. I have 30 lbs to lose, in a hurry, so that I can begin testing for donating a kidney to my father.

2. Many times, while talking, I will completely transpose a sentence. Example: "I'm walking the dog for a take." When, what I meant to say was, "I'm taking the dog for a walk." Dunno why this happens!?

3. My crafting desk is so messy that I usually have no more than 5-6" in which to create (at least everything is within reach, right? lol)

4. My favorite book, since I was small, is The Giving Tree It still makes me teary to this day.

5. I usually listen to John Denver when I'm stamping alone. (it's ok, you can laugh, I don't mind.)

6. Apparently I don't smile and laugh enough. My 7yr old told me last night that if he could change things about me, it would be for me to laugh more and work less.

7. I'm suppose to tag 7 others to do this, but that always makes me feel like a bugger, for putting people on the spot.

Old, forgotten technique

Ahhh, an old forgotten tech: The grid or retiform technique. In light of Earth Day and the "no layer" ink-stain.com challenge, I decided to try the old girl again. It wasn't all that bad until I decided to free-hand the center in Sakura gel pen. Now, I know better than to free-hand anything, but I went ahead and was doing ok, until halfway through, and there was no stopping then. lol Oh well, it's only paper, as a wise friend reminded me :)

All of the earth-wise stamps are no name, bright pink rubber stamps that I got years ago in a junk dept. store. The heart shaped earth is one of my all-time favorites though.

DCM Dare - Fun, Funky Felt

I stamped "Thanks" on acetate and sewed it on top of the heart. (Thanks, Gill for the 'stitch it twice so it looks like you're crooked on purpose' tip. ;) Excellent tip! lol) The sentiment at the bottom is computer generated.

Who likes to make sympathy cards? Is there anyone? It can't be too vibrant, but can't be black and gray either. They have to be simple and elegant to portray sorrow and maybe a shimmer of hope the survivors will be ok. One false move and you have a lovey card or pretty birthday card! Ahh, well at least this is how I feel.

Sympathy cards are probably the ones least cared about and the quickest into the trash can, but hopefully they've done their job along the way. These are for the family of an old friend as he lost his father this week.

Easter weekend has been a bit productive in the play department!

This was a $1 stamp I came across, but never used. I also made a mistake with the new sewing machine and found I really liked it! I hit a different stitch button while stitching straight across the bottom and though OH NO! I've ruined it! I can't fix it, the holes will stick out like a sore thumb. I'll make it look on purpose to save it. Wish I could say I thought this up and did it on purpose, but I can't. lol Do wish I hadn't sewn on the flowers themselves, but...

If you haven't noticed, I love hearts. Yes, it's true, I can't get enough of them. I don't know what it is that draws me to them, but it's highly magnetic! I was just playing with one of the coffee stained hearts I had made a while back and had to use the Gelatins wings that I never used. I forget who makes the woman's face, but I find her gorgeous when used subtly. Anyway, just playing :)

Mother's Day

Mother's Day is fast approaching and I usually end up in last minute mode. This year, I thought I'd get it done early and only have to worry about actually mailing it on time!

This is for a "computer generated" swap. I made the background in Illustrator and printed it out. The fairy was made by D'analen, which closed, but it was bought by About Art Accents and they still have her. She's very large.

I embossed in silver ep with fine glitter and I used Radiant Pearls to paint her. You can't see the glitter sparkle or paint shimmer, but she does. The wings are also raised, but it's not evident in the pic. She is my most favorite stamp so it was fun to pull her out again!

This is the card I was working on and used the leftovers for the DCM card. Like that one, you can't see the gold webbing sprayed on the background or the gold on the dyed flowers. I think the webbing adds so much flavor to the card. I tied the scrappers floss so there were some knots in it and not so plain.

This is only a 3x3 card and a feeble attempt at the dare, but while I was making another card and had left over bits, I figured what the heck. It's very non-traditional, but I have no one to send it to anyway. lol

The background paper is Basic Grey, but I sprayed it with gold webbing to give it texture and bit of gold sheen. The black is scrapper's floss. The stamps are $1 Michael's stamps that I hadn't ever used.

Arch Challenge & new technique

Ink-stains challenge this week was a gothic arch. I was fully prepared to skip it, when Kim referred me to Ethel's blog to check out her latest challenge. It was there I reminded of the masking tape technique that I'd always wanted to try. Well...Man O' Man!! was that a challenge! I thought I'd list many things I don't use at all or rarely, but I did add rubber stamps to the list because, I umm...need them. lol Of course, Dh did not choose that number and I was left with:

I almost said, "Oh, forget that!!!" lol All things I'd hope he'd not pick, he did. I even thought, well, no one will know stamps weren't picked, but I got a case of the guilts. Luckily, I had unopened MM stickers that were double-sided to stick glitter to, so I could kill two stinky birds with one stone. And the fiber, well, it's not a fiber, more of a tinsel thread, but it was in my fiber drawer, so it was fair game. The photo is wonky, but the scanner refused to show the glitter color and mirror cardstock.
Anyway, this was quite a lesson in "if you don't use it, get rid of it" because it will come back to haunt you! LOL

The Asian card looks like it has silver accents, but they are actually shiny gold. My scanner seems to have a sense of humor.

You only have to glance at a Newspaper quickly to read headings with 'Shock' titles & 'Clever' puns all designed to make you want to read what the article is all about!

The colors are off as this has no pink, only darker peaches and browns, but...

This one I have to give 100% credit to Miss Gillian. Her sewing inspired me to open my new machine and play! (can you believe I actually opened it?!) I also stamped on the flower. This is a brilliant idea I wouldn't have thought of myself!

The heart is made of crumpled cardstock stained in coffee and the background is a pretty, aged rose vellum, but I don't know who makes it. Love stamp by Heidi Swapp. (I just noticed I forgot to cut the ribbon ends shorter before I scanned. ooops. lol)

I've finally taken the plunge and tried to meet a dare set out by Daring Card Makers. I usually say I should try it, but either run out of time or plain chicken out. I'm not sure it's quite up to the challenge layed out, but it was my attempt.
The dare for this week is:
A Really Romantic Scrapbook Layout - but on a card!
Scrapbookers are challenged to downsize your usual a 12x12 LO onto a teenyweeny one - maximum of 6x6, which can be sent safely through the mail. Cardmakers - you're used to working on a small space, and you know all about the ribbons, brads and other bits and bobs - but can you take on board all the other little touches that are used on a scrapbook page - the titles, the journalling, the photographs etc?

Love this vellum with bikes on it! You can't see the thin layer of silver mirror paper, but it's there. Needed some chrome!

Simple is as simple does, I guess. I keep falling into my one-stamp card rut, but darn it they are faster!
I am trying to use a lot of my patterned paper stash. I keep collecting and not using it. The same for embellishments. Must stop that!

The couple is of course, Stampsmith. I just love her stamps! The background template is just something I made in Illustrator. Can't very well see the red Stickles on the hearts, but they sure do sparkle. I so love sparkle!
